Eye on the Sparrows

Lincoln Park has a new breakfast/lunch/brunch spot joining the ranks – and guess what? It’s pretty darn good.

Headed by tattooed chef, Gregory Ellis, 2 Sparrows is making its mark by partnering up with more than 10 local farms. Everything from eggs to fruit, to chicken and cheese all come from sustainable produce partners that they proudly support. And to continue with the local theme, patrons can also spot paintings and other artwork on the wall by none-other-than, you guessed it, local artists.


Now on to the more important stuff, the food. While the breakfast menu feature staples like the Old School (2 eggs, 2 bacon, choice of toast), a fan favorite is certainly the Belly Sandwich. A flakey biscuit, topped with blackened pork belly and a sunny side up farm fresh egg is a genius, tasty way to pull pork belly into the breakfast arena. Another can’t-miss for breakfast is their market quiche. Fluffy and fresh, it changes daily based on availability of local produce.

Should you be feeling slightly sinful, the maple bacon donut is ordered by just about every table. While, yes, it is like eating dessert for breakfast, it it’s oh-so worth it. And along those same gluttonous lines, the foie gras and cherry pop tart is one of the most memorable things you can ever eat.

Lunch options are also impossible to resist with such creations as their homemade Southwest Veggie Burger which won’t make you miss the meat version whatsoever. Their take on a Cuban sandwich is also fantastic and, quite frankly, a pork-lover’s dream as if features pork belly and pulled pork atop a baguette with other delicious accoutrements. Sandwiches are served with your choice of fries or homemade tator tots, which are soft on the inside and crispy on the outside and about the size of a jumbo marshmallow.

The brunch menu is a marriage between the separate, weekday breakfast and lunch menus and serves a combination of their greatest hits plus some specials reserved just for weekend diners.

2 Sparrows

Unlike most breakfast/lunch/brunch spots, 2 Sparrows features a full liquor menu beyond just the breakfast cocktail staples like Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas. Craft beers, wines by the glass, and a complete list of creative cocktails comprise the beverage program. And for those of you who need your Diet Coke fix, be prepared: only homemade sodas and infused lemonades (along with juice, tea, and coffee, of course) get served as soft drinks here.

Reservations are not accepted at this intimate, 63-seat space, so it’s first-come, first-served for their popular brunch hour on the weekends – and coming  hungry is not only encouraged, it’s an understatement.
