We’ve got your Sunday plans covered.  If you’re in town this weekend, do not miss the second annual Pinehurst Concours d’ Elegance. The event kicked off on Friday with the Iron Mike Rally to Fort Bragg. The event honored and gave back to those stationed in Fort Bragg, which is where the primary training facility for the Army Special Operations Forces is located. On Saturday, the “Cars and Coffee” took place with a late afternoon concert by The Beatles tribute band, The British Invasion. The day to arrive is Sunday when 119 vintage and rare cars will be on display including Steve McQueen’s 1956 Jaguar XKSS, nicknamed “The Green Rat.” This rare beauty is one of only 16 made. See it on Sunday!

Bhang

bhang

There are several drinks that are only known in very limited parts of the world and  Bhang is one of them.  It is very popular beverage consumed largely by the people of India and Pakistan. It is considered a delicacy in these countries but rarely recognized anywhere else.  Bhang is made from cannabis and while most of us know we can smoke or cook with it, consumed as a beverage is far more popular in this part of the world. Taxes done … time for a drink

Tax season has come and gone.   With it the headache of seemingly endless forms, boxes, and charts.  No sleep.  Questions creep into your head… Did I fill everything out correctly?  Am I forgetting any juicy deductions?  Am I going to owe a crap-ton of money?  Am I going to be audited?  Do they allow conjugal visits in prison?  It’s enough to drive a person to drink.

J.W. Marriott announced a couple tax themed cocktails to help take the edge off. Read more…

Happy Holidays from VODA Magazine

xmas

As 2013 quickly draws to a close we would like to take pause and reflect on another year gone by in hopes of gaining a better understanding about ourselves and each other.  People spend their entire lives trying to figure out what it all means; what role they have to play in it all.  It’s a endeavor that takes a lifetime and along the way the best we can hope for a little wisdom.

In the past year VODA Magazine has evolved from an upscale cocktail culture publication to a chronicle of true luxury.  Not in the pedestrian sense of the word, like an exposition of shiny expensive toys, but rather in the stuff that enriches life.   For us  that means seeing the world, eating and drinking well, finding a style that defines you.  It’s also about family, tradition, love, and friendship… all the things money cannot buy.

Looking to 2014 we plan to explore the definition of true luxury even further.  We invite you to open a dialog with us since real understanding comes sharing.  We’re all in this together.

VODA Magazine would like to wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season. May you find peace, love, and joy in the new year.

A La Mode in Monaco

grand entrance

Grand Entrance Hotel Metropole

Varoom.

Oh, the sound effects–champagne flutes clinking, roaring cheers, wisps of flirtatious laughter wafting through the air like curling ribbons—and the constant roar and more of a bevy of formula one-mobiles careening, whirring and screeching through the exceedingly well manicured streets of the municipality of Monaco. Up hill, down hill, through a tunnel they’ll go—teams called Mercedes and Red Bull competing for the premier title in car racing. It’s the world’s most expensive race. And, to watch it each year in May, more than 37,000 glamorously attired spectators will pack into a parcel of land no bigger than the expanse of New York City’s Central Park. Read more…

BELIZE BOND-ESQUE HIDEAWAYS

ShahBelizeRainforest

Belize, the tiny Central American country, wedged between Guatemala and Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, is blessed with virgin beauty. Vast, white-sand beaches host translucent, azure waters bearing the largest barrier reef in the world, after Australia. Two hours inland, dense rainforests and remote rivers shelter endangered species, many indigenous and unique to Belize, and conceal rich, historical Mayan sights. From the astonishing array of marine life to its dazzling display of jungle life, the Caribbean way of life completes the allure. Read more…
